I have replaced the plumbers tape on the skimmer hose fitting threads, and the pump fitting threads Hayward Powerflo Matrix. I’ve put plumbers tape on the part of the skimmer and pump fittings where the hose attaches and tightened the clamps. The hose is new. Thank you in advance for your help.

If the cover is a floating type without a roller system, be sure to fold or place it on a clean surface. Otherwise, when you put it back in place it will drag leaves, grass, or dirt into the pool. If it is a mechanized cover system, any small amount of standing water on top of the cover will slide off as you roll it up.

Prev NEXT We’ve already seen that the water in a swimming pool needs to circulate through a filtering system, to remove dirt and debris. During normal operation, water flows to the filtering system through two or more main drains at the bottom of the pool and multiple skimmer drains around the top of the pool. The main drains are usually located on the lowest point in the pool, so the entire pool surface slants toward them.
Most of the dirt and debris that sinks exits the pool through these drains. To keep people from getting their hair or limbs caught in the plumbing, the drains are almost always covered with grates or antivortex covers a cover that diverts the flow of water to prevent a dangerous vortex from forming.

We are having trouble with remembering how to connect everything since we didn’t get to open the pool last season. We are not using the heater or the auto chlorinator as they are both broken. I understand the skimmer bottom connects to the front of the pump and that the pool wall is connected to the ‘pool return’, what gets connected to the pvc drain pipes?
It has two valve shut offs and do we have to go through the heater? Sincerely Confused Karin Hi Karin. This page shows a diagram of a typical center drain installation on an above ground pool. Center Drain Installation The drain pipes connect with the skimmer at a T and from there one pipe should go into the pump. The center drains and the skimmer are all suction devices and need to hook up to the pump. They should all have valves so that the suction can be regulated. It is possible that at times you may want to shut off the drains and let all of the suction go to the skimmer.
If you are brushing the pool you may want to close off the skimmer and just open the drain where you are pushing the dirt towards. Heaters and chlorinators should be installed on the return line. Leaving them out is not a problem.

I purchased a vacuum with telescope handle and was told to hook one end to vacuum put entire hose into pool, but where does the suction come from? The pool cam with vacuum attachment that sits on top of skimmer, but don’t even know how to use that as it cannot connect to the hose Thanks for the question Tonja The easiest way to hook up the vacuum is to attach the vaccum head to the pole, then attach the hose to the vacuum head. Put that in the water and allow to sink to the bottom.
Unroll the vacuum hose and feed it into the water. Go straight down into the water because you want to fill the hose with water. Any air that’s left in the hose will go through the system. You can also put the other end of the vacuum hose against one of the returns. This will also fill the hose with water. Take the other end of the hose and put that under the skimmer weir, and attach it to the skimmer suction.
If you can you can open the skimmer valve to increase the amount of suction. You might also have what’s called a skim basket plate or connector. There should be a 90 degree angle that sits on top of a plastic around plate.
